A few of my clients have been watching TikTok and Instagram content and have noticed pilates exercises that utilize the wall. I found a couple of nice printables they can use at home between their private and class sessions. If you're unfamiliar with wall Pilates, take a look at my article below.
What is Wall Pilates?
Wall Pilates is a variation of traditional Pilates exercises that uses a wall as a prop for support, resistance, and alignment. It blends Pilates principles—like controlled movements, core engagement, breath coordination, and mind-body awareness—with the stability or resistance of a wall. It’s often marketed as an at-home-friendly workout because all you need is a clear wall space—no reformer or expensive equipment required.
How it works:
You perform Pilates-based moves (like leg lifts, bridges, roll-downs) with your feet, back, or hands pressing into the wall. The wall acts as a guide to help you maintain correct posture and alignment. It can make some exercises easier by offering support, or harder by adding resistance.
Benefits:
Improves core strength, balance, and posture.
Helps with spinal alignment and muscle awareness.
Can be lower-impact and joint-friendly—good for beginners or people recovering from injury. The wall offers instant feedback, so you know if your body is in the right position.
What is the difference between mat pilates and wall pilates? Great question! Both wall Pilates and mat Pilates are forms of Pilates, but they differ mainly in the use of equipment, body alignment, and muscle engagement:
Mat Pilates
Where it's done: On the floor, using just a yoga mat.
Focus: Uses your own body weight for resistance.
Exercises: Classic Pilates moves (like The Hundred, Roll-Up, Teaser, Leg Circles).
Benefits: Builds core strength, improves flexibility, posture, and control.
Support: Requires more balance and body awareness since you don’t have external support.
Wall Pilates
Where it's done: On a mat but with a wall as a support tool.
Focus: The wall provides resistance, alignment feedback, and stability.
Exercises: Many are adapted from mat Pilates
