Tackle Debt - Tips To Help Group Fitness Instructors With Their Finances

How-to-make-money-in-fitness-industry

As a group fitness instructor, at times you don't think you are making enough money as a teacher. Like teachers in other professions, we have to keep up our accreditation by taking fitness workshops. We also have to buy clothes, music and sometimes equipment for our classes which sometimes feels like we are spending more than we are making.

Money-Saving Ideas

If you are trying to get out of debt but you constantly have to spend money as a teacher, here are some tips on how to save on music, fitness clothing, fitness workshops and more.
  1. Volunteer to work at a fitness conference. Some conferences let you go to the workshops for free or for a reduced price.
  2. Buy your music at fitness conferences. A lot of vendors have music for a cheaper price than on their website. Also, wait for the last day of the conference for a deeper discount.
  3. Buy your fitness clothes at Marshalls, Target or Walmart. If you want to splurge and buy Lululemon pants go ahead if it is in your budget if not, stick to the above companies.
  4. Try to stay away from becoming certified with a lot of gimmick fitness certifications such as Zumba, Barre, Pound and etc. The reason, they are only here for a minute and they lose popularity and you are stuck with a dead certification, clothing, gear and etc. Stick with the tried and true certifications like yoga, group fitness instructor, cycling and personal training. Take a workshop to teach a hot fitness trend but I would not spend a lot of money on something that might not be around in a few years.
  5. Look for free cec's or ceu's through your fitness certification organization or with fitness publications.
  6. Price different fitness education programs to see who offers cheaper prices on continuing education credit courses. I found that Fitness ETC! has some of the best prices around and is an accredited organization.
  7. Get on the mailing list of your favorite fitness music company and wait for an email when they offer sales and buy your music at that time.
  8. If you have a friend that is a DJ, have them put together some music for your classes in exchange, you give them a free workout.
These are my money-saving tips if you're trying to tackle your debt or you are trying to save some money. Let me know in the comments below if you are a group instructor and how you save money on workshops, clothes, music and etc.
