An Update On My Cholesterol Levels

In November, I reported here that I decided to lose some weight in order to see if that would bring down my cholesterol levels. On that same post, someone commented that intermittent fasting has been shown to lower LDL and total cholesterol levels. I decided to lose weight and also practice intermittent fasting at the same time.

I joined a DietBet and I lost 7.2 pounds by Thanksgiving by counting my calories on non-fasting days. Two to three times per week, I went on 16 hour fasts. I found this easiest to do because if you finish eating by 8pm, you don't eat again by 12pm the next day.

Two weeks into the fast and weight loss program, I joined an arthritis study and they checked my cholesterol. The research group told me that my total cholesterol dropped from 280 to 252! They didn't check the LDL cholesterol. I was overjoyed with my results. I can't wait until this week, because I will return to see my doctor to redo my lipid test. I'm sure it would even be lower because with the arthritis study blood test, I had just begun fasting and losing weight.

If you are looking to lower your cholesterol by intermittent fasting, read the following articles I have posted below.  I will be back in a couple of weeks with my final results and no meds for me :-).

Could You Benefit From Intermittent Fasting?
