Open Enrollment Is Ending Soon - February 15, 2015

Open enrollment is on and will be ending on February 15, 2015. Don't wait because you can be penalized for not having health insurance. If you miss the deadline, you will have to wait until the next open enrollment period and that won't be until 2016.

Singles or people with families who do not have the minimal health coverage, face being hit with a $325 per person or a 2% of your household income fine, which ever is higher. This will be reflected when one files his or her 2015 taxes.

How to find the right plan

Since time is of the essence, you need to log on today and start searching the marketplace.  People believe that health insurance is too expensive but there are affordable programs out there. All you need to do is to go online and compare the prices of plans that fit your needs.

Some families might even qualify for a tax credit and this can reduce the amount of their monthly payments. If you are an individual in order to qualify, you must make between $11,670 and $46,680. If you have a family of two, the qualifying amount is between, $15,730 and 62,920. To see if you are eligible for a tax credit, check out the government's healthcare website (HealthCare.gov).

  2. I never ever would recommend not having health insurance, but did learn a couple things at a recent income tax seminar. The IRS will deduct the health insurance penalty from your income tax refund if you have one coming, but if you owe money or don't need to file they will not go after you for it. This is the only situation our speaker is aware of where the IRS will not come after you for money owed. Also you won't be fined if you have an insurance lapse for less than three months.
