Working Fitness Vacations
I'm tired of the snow and the cold in Chicago. It's been a long winter throughout the United States this season and most of us have had enough. I want to go on vacation but I'm on a budget and trying to become debt-free. In January, I remembered a program I wanted to do 10 years ago but never got around to doing it. If you are a certified fitness professional, you can take a "room and board paid" working fitness vacation in a 4 to a 5-star resort in exchange for work. You must work for about three hours a day and that's it.
Working Fitness Vacations
Fit Bodies, Inc. is the largest teaching vacation organization in the world. Fit Bodies, Inc. contracts with resorts that have fitness and group classes at their vacation spots. If you are a certified yoga, group, tennis, squash, golf instructor or a personal trainer, you can apply. Wellness coaches, nutritionists, and nurses can also apply to this program.
Fit Bodies, Inc. requires members to annually select an account type. Basic is free and will allow viewing access to all available resorts and dates. Upgrade accounts allow you to access and book any resort at any time based on your area of expertise. This upgrade is called Travel and costs $67.00 a year.
I just signed up to try out this program without the upgrade. I found a beautiful resort in Mexico called "Dreams Tulum Resort and Spa." I love the Maya Rivera coast in Mexico and my husband has never been there: so this will be a great vacation for the two of us. However, when I went to book, I found they also require an administration fee of $375.
The administration fee is a weekly service fee that covers your Unlimited-Luxury® accommodations. This includes you and your travel companion or family. I decided to research the price of the resort on the dates I would like to travel. Dreams Tulum Resort and Spa rooms prices range from $375 to $428 a night in June. Here's the breakdown:
Fit Bodies Inc. room and board: $375 for 7 nights
Expedia prices: $2625 for 7 nights for 2 people
I think I'm going to do it. Two of my girlfriends have already volunteered to tag along and are ready to go. Do you have any friends or family in the fitness and wellness fields who would want to take a working fitness vacation? How do they feel about this program?

This is awesome! Definitely something I want to get involved with thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSounds great! I didn't know anything about this!
ReplyDeleteI don't work out at all. The photo looks beautiful though.
ReplyDeleteThere really is a resort for everything! I'd be motivated to exercise with that beautiful view as my reward!!!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap this is genius. I hope you do it!!!
ReplyDeleteThis program is insane. It is great to know that even on a vaca, you can kinda force yourself to host a few classes in exchange for practically free room and board. This is phenomnal
ReplyDeleteThis sounds awesome! I hope you do it! I had no idea this could be done!
ReplyDeleteI've been doing this yearly as a tennis pro for about 11 years. My wife and I are now hooked on Grand Palladium Riviera near Tulum. We go for three weeks each trip, and this November will be our third visit to Palladium through Fit Bodies.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rod, I will be working for them soon.
DeleteIt is great ! been doing Jamaica & Barbados with them ! Loved it ;)
ReplyDeleteLooks very pretty and I suppose some exercise even on vacation is a good thing, I love all inclusive resorts, saves so much trouble and money. This looks like a wonderful resort with lots to do even for a slug like me. A bit of yoga with a side of fruite and a nonalocholic drink with an umbrella in it yeh that's the ticket
ReplyDeleteI would love to do this myself!!! #wowlinkup
ReplyDeleteI think I'd actually have fun with something like this!
ReplyDeleteI found your blog because Fitness Pro Travel linked to it on Facebook. I traveled to Jamaica with them in 2012 and am going to Mexico with them this summer. It's literally as good (if not, better) than it sounds. The hotel in Jamaica we stayed at was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - I'd never be able to afford it without this program, and teaching the classes was actually really fun. Everyone is so relaxed and happy to be there - plus getting my sweat on after the all-inclusive food and drinks was very welcome :)
ReplyDeleteHave a GREAT trip, I know you'll love it!!
(Let me know if you have any questions!)
Thanks for your information and I will contact you when I get closer to my travel date. I'm thinking about February 2015, now.
DeleteSounds awesome! I wish I was a certified trainer of some sort. One of my dream vacations is to go to a resort like that, but as a student ;)
ReplyDeleteYou see, I love this! A great combination of working out and vacation. And the review from Gabby makes it sound awesome! Can't wait to read your experience!

P.S. Just got back from Tulum. You should totally do this. It's an amazingly beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Femme. It is a beautiful locale.
DeleteWhat a great idea! Love this. Thanks for sharing with Hump Day Happenings.
ReplyDeleteWow, I had no idea you could do something like this! Too bad I don't fit in any of those categories...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing on Hump Day Happenings : )
Interesting concept!
