Weight Loss Camp - Make Your Own

fitness-camp-for-adults
Have you ever thought about getting in shape by taking a weeklong vacation at the Biggest Loser Resort camp or any other fitness camp for adults? I know one of my friends wants to, but she doesn’t have the money. Did you know you can develop your own weight loss camp for less money? Let me show you how.

If you were to sign up for one week of grueling exercise and subsisting on a spartan diet, it could cost you more than $2000 or more at a weight loss camp. Since you want to save money, I’m only instructing you on how to set up your own weight loss camp for adults.

  • First, you will need to take off a week from work. If you have children, your spouse is going to have to pitch in and do all the chores. This is your time to get in shape so you won’t need any distractions.
  • If you are not a member of a health club, you need to join a local gym for one week. Some clubs let you have a free week, but they hassle you to join or you can just pay for a day pass or a week’s pass.
  • Have a trainer design a 4-6 hour/day workout program for the week based on what they offer at the fitness club you belong to or plan to join for that week.
  • Nutrition, this is a tricky one based on your willpower. You can make a week's worth of nutritious, low-calorie foods and plan out all your meals for the week. If you don’t want to cook or you don’t know how to design a weight loss meal plan, you can pay for 1 week of meals from BistroMd, Paleo On The Go or you can hire a private chef.
  • For those who cannot work out on his or her own, then they might want to pay for a trainer to get them through the week. Off-site trainer fees vary so you are going to have some comparison shopping. Narrow your list to three trainers and interview and hire the trainer that you feel meets your needs and comfort level.
  • If you feel you are going to be sore and would like extra pampering, schedule a massage appointment for that week. Find a deal by visiting a hotel website or looking on Groupon.

Let’s compare the stats of the various weight loss camp ideas:

A camp without a daily trainer no paid meal plan
Health club or community health center free to $140 for the week
Trainer to design your program $35 to $150 total

A camp with a trainer and paid meal plan
Health club or community health center free to $140 for the week
Trainer $210 to $490 for the week
Meal plan $159.95 - $350 for the week

A camp with a trainer/meal plan/massage
Health club or community health center free to $140 for the week
Trainer $210 to $490 for the week
Meal plan $159.95 - $350 for the week
Massage $50-$90 for one session

As you can see, the above prices are way below the $2000+ price tag. Use this model and kick-start your weight loss program. Have you ever thought about going to a fitness camp? Would you use this DIY weight loss camp?

  1. That would be so much fun to have your own fitness camp. It would even be more fun if you can get your friends and family together to do it with you.

  4. Wow, that would be amazing, but I think I would pass out if I tried to workout for 4 to 6 hours on my own, lol...I can barely make 30 min!

  5. That's a crazy amount of money to spend and I think finding others in your area who are working towards the same goal would be so much more beneficial in the end.

  6. Yea, I had a friend who was looking at the ranch, she was trying to get everyone to pitch in rather than buy her gifts for her birthday and christmas...but alas. The price of that place, plus airfare to get there is EEEK! Expensive. This is a really great idea, as long as you have the will power to cut out the eating.

  7. I would absolutely love to go to a camp like that, but I doubt it will ever be in my budget. Doing it on my own is much more likely to happen!

  18. These are some great idea to have your own BL Bootcamp!!!! Now taking a week off of work? Hmm, I guess it could be worth the value of the cost of your vacation time. Great idea and to do it with friends EVEN better. Everyone puts money in a pot and the winner wins the pool. That is some good motivation.

  19. I keep telling myself I need to do this - next week. I belong to a gym, so it wouldn't be that difficult. I'd probably hurt myself though. I always wanted to spend a week at one of those spa places where they cook healthy meals for you. You take yoga classes and go hiking. Maybe someday.

  20. These are definitely much cheaper options. I wonder if you could shave the total of the project even more if you were to get together with some friends who work out and design simple work outs that involve things like hiking, canoeing, kayaking and basic weight lifting and resistance band usage and then went to a campsite for the week. If you can only eat what you packed anyway, that would help reduce the temptations.

  21. I don't really endorse this bootcamp idea. It's a lot and not sustainable. If you want to have real, lasting weight loss, you need to develop habits that will work and fit into your regular day to day schedule.

  22. My friend joined Curves. She got the meal planner (still had to cook her own, but they specialized what she could eat as well as how many of their circuit workouts she had to do each day/week.) She was pretty pleased and said they were really affordable. But I never knew you could buy day passes for gyms before! Score! I feel like if you have the right motivation, you could do this almost anywhere.

  23. Hey Shelia. We've worked together before. I live in Lansing, il. I have a question about the diet meal delivery BistroMd. Was there a reason you recommend that one and not Nutrisystem or Jenny Craig. Ive done Nutrisystem in the past and it wasnt that appetizing. Im gonna try BistroMd though.

    1. The meals are fresher but the great thing about it, you can try it for one week. If you don't like it, you are not stuck with a months worth of food.
