My First Pizza Attempt Since The 1980's and Workout Wednesdays -WOW!

Yes, I have been inspired to try to make pizza from scratch again after reading a food blog last week.  The last time I made pizza, I was living in the graduate dorm at Ball State University and I was making it for a guy I wanted to date.  He turned out to be my husband 6 years later.  Anyway, I was so proud of my pizza but unbeknownst to me, my husband said he ate it but it was terrible.  I must admit the cheese and sauce was a bit runny and if you tilted it sideways the sauce and topping would have fallen off of the pizza.  He confessed to me years later that my pizza was a failure.

The last time I made pizza was 1985 and I finally have the urge to try it again after reading, Make Your Own Pizza Night from the Sister's Soiree. They don't show you how to make it but I was inspired after looking at pictures of their toppings and finished pizza products.  I found a video by Laura Vitale on how to make pizza at home from scratch.

My favorite is a thin crust margherita pizza with cheese, sauce and some fresh basil as a topping. However, the husband is a meat eater so I will have to compromise and make it half meat and half plain.  I won't be trying this until I buy a pizza stone as suggested by Laura and my sister.

Have you ever made pizza from scratch?  If you do, how does it compare to a pizza bought from a restaurant?  Do you put healthy toppings on your pizza?

  1. I make pizza often. I used to buy the pre made dough from trader Joes and just spread it and add toppings. But since I got a bread maker I make my own likely about twice a month. I love it!

  2. The one and only homemade pizza I've made was a cauliflower pizza. If you aren't familiar the crust is cauliflower. My husband was apprehensive, but even he had to admit is was awesome.

  3. I have not made pizza from scratch BUT I have had pizza made from scratch by my friend Angela's Italian grandmother and I STILL remember it. I was 12 at the time. It was the absolute BEST BEST BEST! If you have a craving for it definitely go for it. There are many ways to make it heart healthy. #wowlinkup

  4. My hubby makes pizza fairly often. We use a packaged crust mix though most of the time. It's definitely different than ordering pizza, but a nice change every once in a while. My hubby really would love to have a stone oven outdoors for pizzas someday.

  5. A pizza stone is a must. It makes a big difference with the texture of the crust. I make both gluten free and regular pizza (for the rest of my family) pretty frequently. I make the dough in my bread maker which saves the kneading time by hand. Now I want pizza :)

  8. I don't want to brag, but my homemade pizza is bomb. We usually make it white, sometimes with spinach, but I can't lie...sometimes we just do the classic red sauce with pepperoni.
