Don't Be A Vulture

Stand Up Straight!

After many years of not sitting or standing up straight, my body is beginning to take on the vulture shape and that's not good. You can see how I stand by looking at my YouTube video. This has landed me in the physical therapist's office and now I have to relearn how to stand up straight. I should have listened to my parents when they told me to stop slumping.

Many people are beginning to develop this posture because of the many hours we are on our computer or gaming systems.  We slump down, round out our shoulders, and stick out our neck as we labor over our keyboards.

I have to correct my posture by stretching out my chest (Pectoralis Major) muscle, strengthening and stretching my upper back muscles (Rhomboids, Trapezius and Latissimus dorsi).  You probably don't have to do all of this, but I can give you some exercises and stretches to get you in that perfect posture, before something happens.

The Stand Up Straight Challenge

You want to start doing these exercises several times a day, then progress to performing them at least 5 to 10 times a day.  Our goal will be to sit and stand a little straighter in 3 months.  Ask family and friends to remind you if you are slumping while standing or sitting.  Good luck with this challenge and hopefully we all be a little taller and straighter by Christmas.  If you cannot see the videos, I posted the following links to the videos:

  5. I have to constantly remind myself to stand up/sit up straight as well as 'standing straight in my knees' as my grandmother used to say.

Have you been to chiropractor to help re-align your spine? I have and it was fun!

  9. I sit fairly upright, but the years of computer time at work are taking a toll. And my chiropractor reminds me of this each time I see him!!
