My $1.50 A Day Journey Starts Today

Live Below the Line

My Live Below the Line challenge started this morning with a peanut butter sandwich and I guess this is the first time I had that for breakfast. It was quite filling and I might have to start doing this when I don't have time to make breakfast. Yesterday, I went shopping with my $7.50 at Save-A-Lot and I was able to buy the following items:

3 oranges .51
Loaf of bread $1.29
Navy beans .99
1 carrot .15
1 onion .35
Can of diced tomatoes .59
Jar of peanut butter 1.89
Turkey hot-dogs .99
Not shown 1/2 cup of black beans .19  bought from my teammate

I'm making my stew as I type and it won't be ready in time for lunch so I'm going to have to make another peanut butter sandwich, bummer.  That's what I get for being lazy last night.  As you can see this isn't easy, especially if you are going to the movies in 2 hours. I will have to just focus on the movie as my twin sits there and chows down on her box of popcorn.

Okay, I'm back from the movies, Tom Cruise and sci-fi, what's not to love.  As you can see from above, the stew came out great.  The only problem, I was so hungry, I think I ate too fast.  I can't wait for this fundraiser to end, Friday can't come fast enough.

P.S
I'm raising money for the Isis Foundation and if you like to donate, go to my page.

  1. We SOOOO want to see Oblivion! We have a gift certificate to the theater....it's good to know it's a good movie. We'll have to use it.

This is such an awesome thing you're doing! Let me get my stuff together and I'll send some support soon. :)

  2. It's truly incredible how much you are saving on these foods! When my husband lost his job and was unemployed for 6 months, I even surprised myself by how easily I was able to cut way back on grocery expenses! I think what you are doing is wonderful!

    1. Thanks for stopping by M. mama. It does save money but it's not enough to live on, I think I1 more dollar is doable. My husband said that I'm cheating because in his former country, the poor wouldn't be able to afford, peanut butter or turkey hot-dogs.

    1. The Fundraiser ended Friday but I think I'm going to do a challenge to survive on 2.50 worth of food a day. So the goal will be to go shopping and spend only $17.50 for a weeks worth of food. This is very doable.

  4. I need to start watching our money better since my job is about to end. That just leaves my husband having to pay for it all until I get something else. Sigh! I know it's possible, just need to change the routine we're in.

    1. It's easy to do there are plenty of website about $5 meals for the family. Bean stews are filling, healthy and frugal.
